The Therapeutic Riding Institute is pleased to announce a new partnership with Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Darcie R Clark and Riverscape Counseling to add Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) to TRI’s programming.
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy is a recognized experiential treatment modality that utilizes the powerful presence of a horse, the training of a licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist to effectively treat a wide range of behavioral, emotional and mental challenges.
“TRI is proud to be the only PATH Intl Premier Accredited Center offering EFP in the greater Dayton area. Adding this service allows us to provide a hopeful, healing experience to those seeking a therapeutic intervention that encourages connection to nature, oneself and others. Accessing the innate grace, power and integrity of horses allows the client to find those qualities within his- or herself, nurturing growth, strength and resilience,” says TRI’s Program Director, Michele Green.
The Mental Health Professional will work alongside TRI’s PATH Intl Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning certified Instructor, Sam Lape, developing lesson plans and utilizing the horse as a treatment modality in private sessions where each individual is given the support they need to overcome life’s challenges. While clients will begin their sessions on the ground, getting to know their horse and their horse’s behavior, some may progress to riding lessons.
Founded in 1973 by Betty Lou Townley and Linden Moore, the Therapeutic Riding Institute is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Premier Accredited Center with 6 PATH Intl Certified instructors. Over the last 43 years, TRI has grown to serve 240 students from an 8 county area providing classes 5 days per week with over 350 volunteers contributing to their program. TRI takes pride in providing therapeutic equine experiences in a safe and compassionate environment where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential.
