It’s a New Year at TRI!

By Michele Green, TRI’s Program Director

It’s a new year, and at TRI we expect it to be a great one!  We will see many changes in 2015, but our mission and the spirit of TRI will remain the same.  Our primary goal, as always, is to improve the quality of the TRI experience for our students, volunteers and supporters.

  • We will offer numerous training opportunities during 2015 to help volunteers expand their knowledge – the first coming up on March 21 – save the date!
  • In addition to our spring, summer and fall sessions, we will once again be offering a late fall session, but we are adjusting our start dates to be able to offer 6 weeks in the late fall rather than the abbreviated, 5 week session we started with.
  • We are also excited to offer a camp experience in the fall (when local schools are on fall break) in addition to our two summer camps.
  • As always, we will be holding a ride-a-thon in the spring and a horse show in the fall.
  • Thanks to on-going support from Fine Line as well as from ACTHA, we will again be hosting a trail challenge fund-raiser.
  • We are excited to partner for the first time with the Ohio National Guard Family Readiness Program, as well as to continue to grow our Horses Assisting Heroes program.
  • We are working to further develop our relationships with other service organizations in the area so we can offer the therapeutic riding experience to more local groups.

TRI is due to be re-accredited by PATH Int’l this year, which means we will be hosting representatives from PATH who will determine if we are following the standards and guidelines of PATH.  These standards and guidelines evolve each year, and so we must evolve as well.  You will probably notice changes in the forms that both students and volunteers complete this year – these changes are being made to better conform to the 2015 PATH Standards.  Please check for due dates when you receive your forms – in order to streamline the scheduling process and ensure that riders can participate in the sessions they desire, there will be cut-off dates for getting all required forms turned in.

Christine has secured the lovely facility at Canopy Creek for this year’s FriendRaiser.  The event will be August 9th, and it is never too early to volunteer to help put this huge, important event together!  Contact Christine @ – she’d love to hear from you!

We greatly value your support and participation (in all capacities), and hope you find your TRI experience to be rewarding and valuable.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your time with us!

TRI Has a New Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

Meet Trina

Jayla 4

Trina, right, is a member of the infamous Hot Chili Pepper Team anchored by TRI Ambassador, Jayla. Jayla’s end of year donation campaign raised over $12,000 for TRI. Thank you to everyone who donated in support of our students !

We’d like to welcome Trina Bolam on as our official Assistant Volunteer Coordinator. Trina will be responsible for building our corporate and school volunteer base. She’ll be keying in on who has volunteer incentives, inviting them to side helper trainings and coordinating special volunteer days at the barn for volunteer groups.  We’re thrilled to have Trina come on board with us in this capacity. Our Volunteer Base is crucial to our program and with Trina’s help, we look forward to growing our volunteer network within our community.

Does your business or school encourage volunteering? Do they match employee donations or make donations in support of employees’ volunteer efforts? Shoot Trina an email at and let her know so she can add them to our list of places to contact. We’ll be developing a comprehensive list of all the volunteer incentives and strategically working to build these relationships in 2015. Check with your employer today to see if they would support your efforts with TRI!

Sponsor TRI in 2015

We have some awesome sponsorship opportunities available in 2015 kicking off with our Triple Crown Campaign. Starting March 16th, 3 TRI Students will be racing for your donations. On three Race Dates, winners will be announced based on who has raised the most cumulative donations. Our jockeys are excited to run for TRI and your sponsorship will help push them towards the finish line!

Limited Sponsorships Available – Only 2 more Race Sponsors Needed!

This $300 Race Sponsorship will help all of our jockeys start out strong when the race begins on March 16th. Your business will be recognized on our campaign materials throughout the 3 month racing season.

We had a great time at the 2014 Tack Exchange and we’re looking forward to having an indoor booth in 2015

TRI will be manning a booth at the Warren County Tack Exchange on Sunday, March 8th from 9am – 6pm. Contact Christine ( to sign up for a volunteer shift. We’ll be passing out information about our program and selling tack, equipment and other horse related items to benefit TRI.

DP&L Announcement

It is with great appreciation that we announce that TRI has been awarded a $10,000 grant from DP&L to help defray costs due to program expansion.  DP&L has been a consistent TRI supporter granting $10,000 in 2013 and $5,000 in 2012.  DP&L employees also volunteer their time with TRI at the FriendRaiser, as Side Walkers and on the Board of Directors.
